After tearing out half the kitchen, opening the wall and moving electrical and plumbing, putting the wall back together and painting (see Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4, aka "How Painting is Like Knitting"), it was finally time to build the washer/dryer closet.
I only have a couple "in progress" photos. Here, Bill's built the top and the side and I've started preparing to paint.
That's it on my "in progress" photos, so I'll skip right to the end result.
These are from after we moved in and you can see (L-R)
- the completed washer/dryer closet
- a 24-in kitchen cabinet (same as pre-update)
- the new gas range with the range hood from our old house
- a short rail above the range and between the window and the washer/dryer closet (new)
- the new 30-in kitchen cabinet (our pots & pans are in those large drawers)
- the cut down "paper stone" counter top (covering the 30-in cabinet only)
- the new under-counter freezer
- the new wood counter-top (longer than before)
All along, Bill said that one of his goals was to make an update that was hardly noticeable — so that a person who had been in the house before might not even notice there had been a change.
I think he succeeded magnificently.
It's absolutely beautiful! I would love to see it in person soon- you guys did awesome. Only question I have is- did you get to keep the deer head wearing the rosary?
