Kitchen Tour

By mid-April, Bill and I were sleeping and eating at the new house and going back to the old house to work on getting it ready to hand off to the new owner. While we are living with moving mess in the rest of the house (to one degree or another), the kitchen is pristine. This was Bill's plan all along. He wanted a "sanctuary" from the rest of the mess: a room that was complete and beautiful where he could escape from the moving chaos.

To me, this is the essence of that sanctuary.

Here's a full tour, starting with the door from the "nave" into the "efficiency apartment".
Going through this door, there is a short hall with stairs on the left and the bathroom straight ahead.
Turning left at the end of the short hall ...
And if you were to turn left again and look back down the short hall ...
But we're not going back, we're stepping forward into the kitchen, with that "Kitchen Update" laundry closet in the far corner.
Stepping in a little more and beginning a slow, clockwise circle ...
Around the corner to the sink.
On the right, you can now see where we entered the kitchen. (The bathroom is on the other side of the kitchen-sink wall.)
Continuing around a little more you can see the stairs up to the loft bedroom. (The door on the right goes to a wonderful pantry ... more on that later.)
Now the complete back wall of the kitchen - pantry on the left, Bill's office closet in the middle and the fridge (in the old coat closet) on the right.
In this shot you can see a tiny bit of Bill's office
Completing our clockwise circle, we've returned to the back door, the north window and on the far right, the edge of the laundry closet.
Now let's take a look at the under-stair pantry.
On the right as you enter are floor to ceiling shelves that just happen to be the perfect size for half-gallon mason jars, Bill's "go to" pantry storage container.
Above are wine glass racks and across the back wall are 1-can-deep shelves (below waist height, so no worry about knocking something down with a stray elbow).
Stepping all the way in there are deep shelves at the back.
More deep shelves on the left, with shallower ones above tucked in under the stairs.
It is a terrific pantry and one of the best uses of under-stair space that I have ever seen.

Next up will be some photos of the non-sanctuary portions of the house!
